Crude oil futures closed Wednesday under $75 as an earlier rebound lost steam.

The Energy Information Administration report earlier on Wednesday showed a surprise increase in supplies.

EIA said U.S. crude supplies rose by 2.6 million barrels in the week ending Nov 14.
